On the Tournament details page, you can make various changes to your tournament, including how users can see, understand, and sign up for it.
Tournament name
Firstly, you can change the tournament’s name to whatever you desire, to a maximum of 100 characters. However, there are some characters that are not allowed in the tournament names:
| - ( ) [ ] – can be used
/ % = & – cannot be used
Tournament description
Describe your event to the players so they can get to know the format.
The description will be publicly visible on the tournament's front page. Markdown formatting is supported.
Join settings
To edit the requirements and limits for players and teams to join a tournament, navigate to the “Settings” tab on the main menu.
Then, select the “Tournament details” section.
Invite-only tournaments
Enable this setting only to allow players you invited to join the tournament with their chosen team.
Inviting players
To invite players, navigate to the “Admin” tab, select the “Invites” submenu tab, and invite players from your friend list.
Accepting the invitation (What the players will see)
Once invited, the player will see a notification on the Tournaments Discovery page. The player will then be able to either open the tournament page or dismiss the invitation.
FACEIT Anti-Cheat requirement
By default, all tournaments and servers must have the FACEIT Anti-Cheat requirement.
At this time, toggling this off does not mean the players will not be required to run the Anti-Cheat client.
FACEIT ELO Skill level limitations
Creating a tournament with skill level limitations is the best way to create meaningful events and benefit from the relative rating system.
Offering multiple tournaments for different skill levels and with different prize pools will help you engage lower-skill level tournament players.
Limiting users by game region and countries
Limit players by country:
By adding all relevant countries, you can indirectly limit players joining from those countries. The checks performed to join a tournament can be done on two different levels, as explained below.
Type of country check:
Geographic location - The user's latest IP address is used to join the tournament. Players signing up for their team may not be able to join your tournament if one of them had previously logged in from a location of a non-whitelisted country.
Player profile - The country flag set on a player user profile. This is based on the user’s address set on the user profile settings.
Country exceptions per team:
To keep things running smoothly, you may decide to allow teams some flexibility with their rosters. For example, you can allow some exceptions for joining from the countries list.
Organizers have found that allowing some player country exceptions increases sign-up numbers and reduces the number of teams dropping out.
Organizer & FACEIT subscriptions - Partnered Organizers only
Players can also use an active organizer’s subscription to join your tournament.
Alternatively, you can organize tournaments for players with active FACEIT Premium subscriptions or those without.
Setting up Substitution and Coaching
Certain games across the platform may allow substitutions and coach slots for teams.
When a team has substitutes or coaches signed up to their tournament’s roster before the match being generated, the team captain can swap them out with other players when the match start is due.
Substitution can only occur during the Substitution match phase. Each game may have a different match process.
In most cases, the match start process is as follows: Match Scheduled -> Server Veto -> Map Veto -> Substitution -> Match Ready
To toggle this, navigate to Tournament > Settings > Team details > Team coaches/Substitutes - see screenshot below.
The match is about to start - how can the captain use the added substitutes?
The initial roster stays the same throughout the tournament. Following the veto phase, teams enter a 3-minute Substitution Phase during which captains can update their rosters within the matchrooms. If no changes are made within this timeframe, the initial roster will remain in effect.
