Nickname changes and idle nickname claiming

If you’re looking to change your nickname and aren’t sure how to do it, read below to find out.

What nicknames are available?

Nicknames must contain at least three non-offensive characters and be unique. For example, if an active player has the nickname bob and you would like to purchase Bob, the system will prevent you from doing so. 

To find out if the name is free to purchase, paste the nickname you’re after into the search box to find all accounts with variations of this name.

FROM THE SHOP

Any FACEIT user can buy a nickname change from the FACEIT Shop for FACEIT Points or via their preferred Cash Payment Method. There is no limit to the number of purchases.

You can choose to change a nickname in FACEIT Shop either by:

  1. Purchasing a normal nickname change (Item Name:  Nickname Change)
  2. Purchasing and claiming a nickname of an idle account (Item Name: Idle Nickname Claim)

Please note that these are separate Shop items, and they will give different search results (e.g. you won’t be able to purchase an idle user nickname via normal nickname change and vice versa). In case you accidentally opened the wrong item, there will be a redirection available to the correct item based on the nickname you’re trying to buy. Please ensure to order through the correct Item as we will not be able to offer a refund on the purchase.

When you click on the order button, you'll be directed to a screen where you can select your desired name. Please double-check the spelling before confirming! Next, you can choose your preferred payment method (further details on payments are provided here). During the payment flow, we have added a 10-minute timer to ensure nobody else purchases the nickname while you are completing the payment.

PREMIUM USERS

Premium users can get either a normal nickname change or an idle nickname claim as part of their subscription benefits. This can be done via Account Settings and a free nickname change is available 1 time every 3 months.  You can type the nickname you want in the field (either normal or idle), and if available, press Save Preferences. 

RELEASING AN IDLE NICKNAME 

Idle nicknames will become available once an account meets the following criteria:

  1. The account has been inactive for over 1 year and has no long-term bans
  2. The account doesn’t have any active subscriptions 
  3. The account is not verified
  4. The account is not deactivated/deleted

You can reset your inactivity at any moment by logging into FACEIT. All users who meet the inactivity criteria above will receive a 7-day email notice before their nickname is available for claiming by other users. If you received this email, you can prevent your nickname from being taken by simply logging into the FACEIT Platform during the 7 days from the moment you receive the email. If the nickname was claimed, the original holder will be given a generic nickname (e.g. yellow1234). Any other personal data and statistics will remain the same for that user. Idle users whose nickname was purchased can have one nickname change free of charge - upon returning to the platform, 1000 FPs will be allocated to their account to do so. We are unable to release nicknames outside of these requirements and will not do so otherwise.

IDLE NICKNAME CLAIM FAQ:

  1. How do I know if my nickname might be taken by someone else?

If you meet our inactivity criteria (see above), you will receive an email notification to let you know about your inactivity status. If you reactivate by logging into the platform within 7 days of receiving the email, your nickname will stay linked to your account. If you continue being inactive, your nickname might be purchased by someone else.  Please note, that if you have used a fake/invalid email address, we might not be able to contact you but you will still be treated as an Idle User.

  1. What happens if someone bought my nickname?

If someone has claimed your nickname, you will be given a generic nickname (e.g. yellow_123). When you return to FACEIT you will get 1000 FP allocated to your account, so you can change your nickname free of charge. Please note it will not be possible to change to your original nickname. 

  1. Can I grab an idle nickname while registering for a FACEIT account?

No, you cannot create a new account with an idle nickname during registration. Idle Nicknames are only available via Shop purchase or as part of the Premium subscription benefit in Account Settings (post-registration). 

  1. Do I need to contact Customer Support to purchase an Idle Nickname? It used to be a Premium benefit. 

As a Premium user, you can automatically claim now via Account Settings without contacting Customer Support. Customer Support will no longer process the release of Idle Nicknames via tickets.  All users are also able to purchase Idle Nicknames via Shop.

  1. Do Idle Nicknames cost the same as a newly generated Nickname?

No, Idle Nicknames do not cost the same. These are two separate products available to purchase in the FACEIT Shop.
