To keep the race to the top competitive, Elo for all level 10 players is being soft-reset at the start of this season. For the first time, the reset will also factor in player activity. There will be a harsher Elo reduction to inactive players.
What happens for regular players?
Active players keep their place in the rankings, but all level 10 players have had their Elo lowered. The highest ranking players from last season are starting around 3500 elo in Season 7. This keeps the race to the top competitive and gives everyone a chance to compete.
What happens to players who didn’t play much last season?
Level 10 players with a lower number of matches in the last season have had their Elo reset a bit more aggressively, to account for their inactivity and reward active players.
What happens to players who didn’t play at all last season?
Any level 10 players who didn’t play any ranked matches in the last season have had their Elo reset more aggressively (in the same way as players with under 50 games played), as well as having an additional penalty applied to account for their long-term inactivity and potential loss in consistency.
I’m level 9, will I have my Elo reset?
No, the Elo reset and inactivity penalties will only apply to level 10 players. Players in levels 1 to 9 will not be affected.
What if I’m in the middle of my first/50th match when the season ends?
We will have a short grace period to allow for such matches to finish, and allow players to prevent a stricter Elo reset.
Will I be moved down the Elo leaderboards when Elo gets reset?
No, as long as you have played at least 50 matches this season: while your Elo will decrease, the same change is applied proportionately to others - so they’ll remain ahead of/behind you. You may move up in the Elo rankings if players above you lose extra Elo for inactivity.
