Setup: Tournament Structure & Scheduling

Tournament Structure & Scheduling

Schedule structure setup

You need to be an Admin+ on the tournament to adjust these settings.

Teams can join the tournament only between the sign-up open and sign-up close dates/times. You can also create breaks in your tournament by scheduling rounds for different days & times. If needed, you can also schedule the matches to start ASAP (as soon as possible), meaning the match in that very round will begin as soon as all teams have been determined from the previous round.

Navigate to Tournament > Settings > Schedule. From there, you can adjust the time for each tournament stage, from sign-ups to round times.

To schedule matches individually within rounds, you need to schedule the matches manually after the round is generated: Matchroom > Match actions > Reschedule.

Enabling 3rd Place Decider

A third-place decider match is common in Single & Double-elimination formats for organizers to determine the third-best team in the event.

When enabled, on the Tournament > Bracket & Overview tabs, you will see the third-place decider as a separate round.

Enable this from Tournament > Settings > Schedule structure, then click the toggle for ‘3rd place decider.’

Please note that the third-place decider toggle can only be enabled once, only before the tournament has started, and it cannot be disabled.

Enabling Double-Elimination’s Double-Grand Final

A Double-elimination Grand Finals often has a Double-finals option. If the team advancing from the Losers bracket wins the undefeated Winners bracket team, the Grand Final series will be reset and played again in another Matchroom.

Enable this in: Tournament > Settings > Game configuration

More information about Double-elimination tournament formats can be found on our support article: Tournament formats: Single and Double elimination

Check-in structure setup

Teams that sign up may not always actually show up and participate in your tournament. Check-in times help to prevent this and ensure tournament teams are ready to play in the tournament.

Check-in opens

  • All players automatically receive an email and mobile app notification when check-in opens
  • To check-in, team captains must click the "Check-in" button on the tournament overview page

Purge missing check-ins

  • Teams that do not check in within the clear time frame are removed from the tournament.
  • Clearing check-ins allows other teams to sign up and fill their slot. We recommend using 30 minutes before the sign-up period closes.
  • If a team that missed the check-in clear deadline turns up before sign-ups close and the tournament has free slots left, they can still sign up again to play.

Match rescheduling setup

You can enable rescheduling to allow teams some flexibility in deciding when to play out matches for the entire tournament.

Allowing teams to reschedule match times helps reduce forfeits for teams who cannot play on specific times or days.
