Participants Management
The Participants tab gives you an overview of your tournament's teams and players and allows you to temporarily or permanently remove them from the tournament.
Can I add/remove players/substitutes/coach or captain as an admin?
Yes and no.
If a tournament has yet to start or you need to make changes for the next, not-yet-generated rounds, a tournament admin can do this alone.
Otherwise, the team roster edits will be reflected in the following not-yet-generated rounds and matches.
If you need to request changes to already-generated matches, please send a request to FACEIT Tournament Operations via Discord.
Here’s how to do this by yourself:
- You must be at least a tournament Senior Admin+ to perform these actions,
- Before adding a new player/substitute/coach, ensure the user is part of the FACEIT premade team the captain used when signing up for the tournament,
- Head to the Participants tab,
- Open the action menu (three dots), click “Manage,”
- Make your changes and confirm your action.
Banning Players
Players can be banned before or after they join your tournament, but before the tournament has started.
If banned after registration, adding players to the ban list will remove them from the tournament or the entire team. Banning players also prevents teams from joining with the player on their roster.
On Tournaments, the option to pre-ban players can be found in Tournament > Admin > Bans
Eliminating & Qualifying Participants
Depending on the tournament format, there are ways to disqualify a participant from an ongoing tournament or qualify them to ensure they no longer get matched up against teams in further rounds.
Swiss-system and Round-Robin formats:
Eliminating: Eliminate the team from the Participants tab to mark a team as eliminated, and they will no longer be matched up in the tournament.
The team will be listed as eliminated on the Participants list, and any already-scheduled matches will be set to be lost.
Qualifying (Swiss-system format only): Select the team from the same Participants tab to mark it as qualified. The team will no longer be matched up in the tournament.
If you are unable to do so as a tournament admin, please request that FACEIT Tournament Operations do so via Discord.
Single-elimination & Double-elimination formats:
Use the admin match actions to set the result to a loss on the next match.
Free For All (FFA) formats:
It is currently not possible to eliminate teams from being matched in this format. Adjust a team’s leaderboard points to remove their ranking before tournament prizes are paid out, or contact FACEIT Tournament Operations to perform this action.
How do I eliminate or qualify a team in a Swiss & Round-Robin format?
As Senior Admin+, head to the Participants tab:
- Ensure that the entire team is aware before proceeding,
- Open the action menu (three dots), click “Eliminate” or “Qualify,” and confirm the action.
If you are unable to do so as a tournament admin, please request that FACEIT Tournament Operations do so via Discord.
Can I undo eliminations or qualifications?
For the Swiss system:
You can only undo eliminations until the next round of matches has been generated. Once generated, it cannot be undone!
For Round-Robin:
You can undo team eliminations at any time. Matches that were set to be lost will not be rescheduled. You will need to reschedule these matches manually and notify the teams. Once the new match results are in, the leaderboard will update gradually.
Setting up Substitution and Coaching
Certain games across the platform may allow substitutions and coach slots for teams.
When a team has substitutes or coaches signed up to their tournament’s roster before the match is generated, the team captain can swap them out with other players when the match start is due.
Substitution can only occur during the Substitution match phase. Each game may have a different match process.
In most cases, the match start process is as follows: Match Scheduled -> Server Veto -> Map Veto -> Substitution -> Match Ready
To toggle this, navigate to Tournament > Settings > Team details > Team coaches/Substitutes - see screenshot below.
Can teams add new substitutes from only their premade team page?
No. All participants must have joined the premade team page before they can be added to the tournament’s sign-ups.
Any players, coaches, or substitutes need to be confirmed before the tournament starts or added manually by a tournament admin before the matches are generated.
What is the substitute player limit?
For players, the Roster modal displays the permitted maximum number of substitutes that teams can sign up, set up in the Team settings described above.
How do match swaps work?
Every time you swap a player from your original team roster on a match, you consume one swap.
Example: Teams get five swaps, and you bring one substitute. One player on your roster drops out of the team. You can now swap your drop-out for up to 5 matches.
F.A.Q.
Can teams change their captain?
Yes, only before the tournament is launched. Tournament admins can change Teams’ captains for matches that have yet to be generated.
However, the captains of already-generated matches must be updated manually. As a tournament admin, please send a request to FACEIT Tournament Operations via Discord to do so.
I have additional participation criteria. How do I check for these?
Highlight your joining requirements for the tournament details and rules. Give details on how to submit additional information. Set the time for signups to close early enough to review the list of teams.
Additionally, check out the Join Screening feature: Setting up screening
Can teams forfeit by themselves?
No. They will have to contact a tournament admin, who will set them as eliminated.
